Shamanic Death Rites: What?
At last nights Healing Circle I performed the Death Rites, a popular although rarely discussed shamanic practice. Don’t panic, it is not a curse or voodoo practice to be feared, although can cause a wee bit of panic in mother-in-laws who’s biggest fear is of dying. Yes, really, my former mother-in-law was not a happy camper when it was mentioned during her treatment at the very high end Miraval Spa in Tuscon.
The truth is, Death Rites are an amazing treatment for everyone and especially comforting for those getting older and thinking of their later years. They can be done in person or at a distance. Last night I used a substitute or stand in for someone in another country. In person, I , as Shaman help the client get comfortable, ask them to close their eyes, breath into a meditative state while I rattle. I prepare the body, the chakra’s, and the luminous body are rolled up and with precision sent on a journey to illuminate the path to spirit. The Wisdom Keepers explain that making the journey prior to death illuminates the path making it easier when the actual time comes.
My volunteer explained how he felt himself relax and move aside. The process itself, he said, felt like the best hour of meditation. After, I offered to perform the Death Rites for him. He jumped at the chance. Once again, lying on the treatment table, relaxed, breathing deep, and allowing himself to go into a deep meditative state. This time I prepared his chakras, luminous body and higher self for the journey into spirit and back. He traveled the path of light, making it easier for when the journey is made, as his true transition comes to pass.
We spoke once the Rite was complete and he relaxed into his new found knowing. He said it was wonderful, he explained that he felt lighter, more relaxed as if he’d released a lot of baggage.
You or your loved ones are encouraged to have the Death Rites performed with them, to witness and be aware, perhaps you too, have some baggage to let go of. It would be my honor to perform the Death Rites or any number of wonderful Shamanic Rites & Initiations. Call me, Robin for your appointment 860-709-3903.
